Getting Started!

December 2019

It started in my head, I always wanted to keep bees. But how to get started? What do I do first?

I have a horticultural back ground and education, I love the outdoors as opposed to being in an office 8 + hours a day. Watching nature around me and learning what they teach and how weather, insects and animals revolve around each other with out guide books or schools, nature of course!

I started looking into beekeeping, got some equipment and ordered bees. Signed up for a beekeeping course in person at the local bee club. Then late February 2020, it came to a screeching halt, Covid! I panicked, what am I going to do. I took online beekeeping 101 classes at Penn State, watched videos, read books, asked a local beekeeper to help me get started and I was off and running. I continued to take courses, read, watch videos, joined a beekeeping club virtually and talked with other beekeepers non stop. I was determined!

Over the last 5/6 years I learned on the job so to speak, I increased my apiary to 12 hives and two yards to keep them. I help run a beekeeping club called Greater Baltimore Beekeepers and help other beekeepers get started and help with questions and problems they may have. I love sharing and helping when I can. I love when my customers come back year after year knowing my honey is the best! hehehe. I have won first prize for my honey, wax and sealed frames. I am proud of what I do and hope to continue to learn more and share more

Frist prize, blue ribbon honey!

Summer in the bee yard, just some of the hives.
